Learning Outcomes
The Office of Community Standards at UIC is dedicated to fostering student growth, accountability, and ethical decision-making. Through our processes and educational initiatives, students will develop a deeper understanding of personal and community responsibility, conflict resolution, and the impact of their choices. Our learning outcomes focus on critical thinking, integrity, and the ability to navigate complex situations with fairness and respect.

Types of Cases

Within the Office of the Dean of Students, cases can be defined as either Academic or Behavioral.
- Academic Cases: Academic cases are related to violations of the guidelines for academic integrity. These include, but are not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, and unauthorized collaboration.
- Behavioral Cases: Behavioral cases involve violations that fall outside the scope of academic integrity. These include, but are not limited to, possession of alcohol, physical abuse, threats or violent behavior, and theft.

General Information
Community standards cases are resolved through a structured process designed to ensure fairness, accountability, and education. A case can be resolved through one of the following processes: academic liaisons, mutual agreements, administrative hearings, or student conduct committee hearings.
