Community Standards for Parents

Even after students leave home for college, parents often play a central role in their character development. As such, UIC works in partnership with parents and families in helping students make the transition to responsible adulthood.

The University also recognizes that students have specific privacy rights. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) is a Federal law that controls the confidentiality of, and access to, student education records. Student disciplinary records are defined as educational records by FERPA. Please note, FERPA requires our office to receive permission from any student before we can discuss the particulars of a student’s conduct matter with anyone other than the student.

If you have questions, please call us at 312-996-4857. Our staff will be glad to speak with you about the UIC Community Standards Process, without your son or daughter’s permission.
