Spring Graduating Student Veteran Recognition & Cording Ceremony
Graduating Student Veteran Recognition & Cording Ceremony
On Friday, April 15, 2022 Student Veterans Affairs hosted the first annual Spring Graduating Student Veteran Recognition and Cording Ceremony. Student veterans were invited to celebrate and receive a red, white and blue cord to mark their approaching milestone – graduation. The Office of Student Veterans Affairs and Dean of Students were happy to host student veterans and their guests for this inaugural event. The Graduating Student Veteran Recognition Reception and Cording Ceremony is the premier tradition that brings family, friends and UIC faculty and staff together.
Programs like this celebration serve as an important demonstration of UIC’s commitment to recognize veteran student success along with the support team that many of their guests represent. UIC alumni, Brett SanPietro served as the first guest speaker and offered a welcome to our emerging alumni. Since then, speakers have included Army Veteran and Executive Associate Vice Provost for Student Success and Belonging, Aisha El-Amin, Navy Veteran and Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, John Coronado, and Army Veteran, Nicky Nickum, also serves as Assistant Professor and College of Nursing Information Services and Liaison Librarian. Student Veterans Affairs is grateful for the growth and success of this annual program and looks forward to this important opportunity to highlight national service and contributions to UIC’s community.
Student Veteran Alumni are invited to participate in the ceremony. If you are interested in volunteering for a future ceremony, please email us at studentveteransaff@uic.edu and include your name, UIN, major, date of graduation and a brief description of your accomplishments since graduation.
